Jason Leopold | We’ve Got Work to Do

Dear Truthout Friends, Most days, my work at Truthout centers on cultivating sources and obtaining documents so I can put together hard-hitting investigative stories about hot-button issues you won’t read about anywhere else. That I have been given the freedom to practice this type of journalism on a daily basis for the past several years is just one of the reasons I love working at Truthout, with people who are just as passionate as I am about covering the real news.

Dear Truthout Friends,

Most days, my work at Truthout centers on cultivating sources and obtaining documents so I can put together hard-hitting investigative stories about hot-button issues you won’t read about anywhere else. That I have been given the freedom to practice this type of journalism on a daily basis for the past several years is just one of the reasons I love working at Truthout, with people who are just as passionate as I am about covering the real news.

But lately, I have had to contend with the stark reality that Truthout’s financial condition threatens our ability to continue covering issues of vital importance. With your help, we’ve moved much closer to meeting our goal, but we must raise $22,000 more before we end our drive.

While the information Truthout provides you with is free of charge, producing this content is costly. Our audience has skyrocketed over the past ten months, as we’ve amped up our reporting and tackled new topics. Check out what some of our friends are saying about us here!

Now, we just need the donations to catch up with the readership. I often find myself saying that if one half of our newsletter readers could commit to a $5 or $10 per month donation, Truthout would be funded for an entire year and I wouldn’t have to burden you with an appeal like this.

Truthout has been incredibly fortunate over the past nine years that our loyal readers have been directly responsible for keeping this organization funded. That’s quite an achievement! On behalf of the entire organization, thank you. We truly feel honored that we are beholden to our readers first and foremost. There are still many stories that need to be told, and we would like to have the opportunity to tell them.

If you’re in a position to make a tax-deductible contribution to ensure Truthout’s survival and longevity, please do so today.

Join us in defending the truth before it’s too late

The future of independent journalism is uncertain, and the consequences of losing it are too grave to ignore. To ensure Truthout remains safe, strong, and free, we need to raise $29,000 in the next 36 hours. Every dollar raised goes directly toward the costs of producing news you can trust.

Please give what you can — because by supporting us with a tax-deductible donation, you’re not just preserving a source of news, you’re helping to safeguard what’s left of our democracy.
