Right-wingers are holding the budgets for national programs hostage. Everything from public broadcasting to health care for the poor and sick is on the chopping block. This crackdown comes as we pour money into wars of choice, give subsidies to our socialized oil companies and spend billions to keep more of our population in prison than any other country.
We at Truthout strive to keep you informed of the day-to-day and big-picture events that are shaping this reality. But as we work together to change the media landscape – as well as the consciousness of our country and our world – we also struggle to keep our bottom line intact.
Not all of our readers who would like to help are able to do so. If you can, please give generously as we try to catch up on our goal. Trump is silencing political dissent. We appeal for your support.
Progressive nonprofits are the latest target caught in Trump’s crosshairs. With the aim of eliminating political opposition, Trump and his sycophants are working to curb government funding, constrain private foundations, and even cut tax-exempt status from organizations he dislikes.
We’re concerned, because Truthout is not immune to such bad-faith attacks.
We can only resist Trump’s attacks by cultivating a strong base of support. The right-wing mediasphere is funded comfortably by billionaire owners and venture capitalist philanthropists. At Truthout, we have you.
