In a background briefing for reporters this afternoon, a senior adminstration official confirmed that President Obama will call for 30,000 additional troops to be sent to Afghanistan by next summer.
The senior administration official said the surge reaffirms Obama’s “core goal” to “disrupt, dismantle and defeat al-Qaeda” in Afghanistan.
