Silja J.A. Talvi

Silja J.A. Talvi has been working as an independent investigative journalist for 30 years. Her early work on mass incarceration, the drug war, misogyny, eugenics, racism, refugees and police and prison brutality has resulted in 18 awards for excellence in journalism and essay writing. Talvi has been published in roughly 85 publications in the U.S. and around the world. Her 2007 book, Women Behind Bars: The Crisis of Women in the U.S. Prison System, revolved around hundreds of immersive, investigative interviews and travels to juvie, jails, public and private state prisons, federal prison, as well as international prisons.
