Eve Hayes de Kalaf

Prior to graduating with Distinction in Modern Language Studies from the University of Nottingham in 2005, Eve Hayes de Kalaf was a Research Assistant at the Council of Europe in France. She then went on to spend most of her professional career in Latin America and the Caribbean where she has worked in the fields of international development, consultancy and communications. She has collaborated on projects with the United Nations, the World Bank, the IMF, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Inter-American Development Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the British Embassy, among others. Her experience with international companies, government agencies and development organisations has taken her to Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Haiti.

Eve returned to academia later in her career, obtaining a Distinction in a Diploma in Human Development by the United Nations Development Programme in 2010 and then completing a Master’s degree in Caribbean and Latin American Studies at the Institute for the Study of the Americas, School of Advanced Study, University of London in 2011. She was recently awarded a PhD studentship at the Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society at the University of Aberdeen and is based at the Department of Hispanic Studies where she tutors on undergraduate courses on Latin America and human rights. She also works part-time as the Programmes Coordinator for the Haiti Support Group, a UK-based advocacy organisation.
