Claire Snell-Rood

Snell-Rood is a medical anthropologist examining how varied social relationships contribute to mental health and overall wellbeing. Focusing particularly on women living in poverty, she has conducted ethnographic and qualitative research among women living in slums in urban India and among women with depression in rural Appalachia, partnering with community-based research and advocacy organizations and lay health worker initiatives. Snell-Rood’s current work explores how mental health interventions can be culturally tailored and implemented in low-resource rural US settings.
