“This proposed policy seeks to erase the existence of non-binary and intersex Arkansans,” the ACLU of Arkansas said.

The bill protects providers offering gender-affirming care to patients from states where such care is prohibited.

Is this a genuine shift away from targeting LGBTQ people, or are lawmakers pausing their attacks ahead of the elections?

The goal of the legislation is “to help create a soft landing” for such transplants, State Rep. Leigh Finke said.

“This bill seeks to discriminate further against my trans and non-binary siblings,” one LGBTQ rights advocate said.

Not every bill was defeated in the state, which still has some of the harshest anti-transgender laws in the nation.

This gender-affirming care ban will lead to “fewer kids grow[ing] up,” one advocate said.

“This is an incredibly strong law and I urge the Maryland House to swiftly pass this measure,” one LGBTQ+ advocate said.

“This is fascism,” said one LGBTQ advocate.

Queer people already face discrimination as many insurance companies don't cover IVF for same-sex couples.
