Sarah Olson

Sarah Olson is a technical writer, radio producer, and independent journalist based in Oakland, California. A New Hampshire native, she majored in women’s studies at Simmons College in Boston. Olson has been a regular contributor to Pacifica Radio, Free Speech Radio News, and San Francisco Liberation Radio. In May 2006, she interviewed First Lieutenant Ehren Watada, who publicly refused deployment to Iraq, citing the war’s illegality. Her reporting on Watada led to a military subpoena, compelling her to testify in his court-martial. In response, Olson co-organized the “Defend The Press” coalition with the Center for Media and Democracy, advocating for press freedom and successfully challenging the subpoena.
