Mary Battenfeld

Mary Battenfeld is a faculty member in the Humanities Department at Wheelock College in Boston, where she teaches courses in writing, American literature, and American history. Her scholarship includes a new edition of the classic 1950s adoption memoir The Family Nobody Wanted, and published essays on the Harlem Renaissance, Native American literature, and teaching the civil rights movement. She is currently writing, with colleagues in elementary education, Notable Books, Notable Lessons, a book on using literature to bring social studies back into the K-12 classroom. Dr. Battenfeld is also a longtime Boston Public Schools parent, and a founder of the public education advocacy group QUEST (Quality Education for Every School).
