The state of California is expanding access birth control. Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 2348 into law on September 22nd, granting registered nurses, certified nurse-midwives and physicians’ assistants the power to dispense birth control, easing access for those who want to obtain the pill.
Via The L.A. Times:
Brown signed the bill Saturday morning at Planned Parenthood’s Los Angeles headquarters in South Los Angeles and cast the event as a reaffirmation of “every woman’s basic constitutional rights.”
Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards applauded the new law and in a news release said that “by enacting this bill, California is, once again, setting an example of national leadership at a critical time when access to health care is under attack.”
The move is expected to create shorter lines and wait periods at reproductive health clinics.
