Cultivation: Shifting People of Color’s Access to Land Use

Part of the Series

Ladydrawers: CultivationThe Ladydrawers’ “Growing Season,” the latest in our monthly investigative comics journalism series, traces the links between food, gender, race and public health.

Our first two strips with Sarah Becan, “Roots and Migrations” and “Stinging Nettles,” looked at how food traditions migrated to or have been restricted on US land and what individuals are doing to keep them alive. “Cultivation,” with Melissa Mendes, presents the first half of a look at an innovative food justice program in New York State that focuses on shifting people of color’s access to land use.
