Michael Bell


Michael Bell is a mentor, writer, and tireless advocate for expanding access to higher education for people incarcerated in U.S. prisons. In 2022, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern Illinois University, where his studies focused on justice-centered youth development and violence prevention. He also participated in courses organized by the Prison Neighborhood Arts/Education Project, including the Justice Think Tank, and is a proud contributor to Humans of Life Row, where storytelling and creative expression serve as powerful tools for connection, dignity, and change. A house DJ since the age of 12, Michael was also a participant in the Rebirth of Sound music program at Stateville Correctional Center. Guided by a deep commitment to justice, Michael draws on both rigorous scholarship and lived experience on multiple sides of crime and violence to support healing and help build safer, more just communities.
