James Balog
James Balog is the Founder and Director of the Extreme Ice Survey, a collaborative project between artists and scientists devoted to documenting changes in glaciers and raising public awareness of climate change. In addition to 30 years of experience photographing nature, Balog holds a master’s degree in geomorphology from the University of Colorado. He is a recipient of the Leica Medal of Excellence and the premier awards for both nature and science photography at World Press Photo in Amsterdam. Balog is the author of six books, including Survivors: A New Vision of Endangered Wildlife and Tree: A New Vision of the American Forest. His images have been widely exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and are regularly published in such magazines as Life, Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, Audubon, and Outside. He is a contributing editor to National Geographic Adventure.
