Lavette Mayes

Lavette Mayes is a Chicago Community Bond Fund volunteer, community advocate and mother of two. In 2014 and 2015, Lavette was detained for 14 months in Cook County Jail because she could not pay a monetary bond. After Chicago Community Bond Fund posted Lavette’s bond, she spent an additional five months incarcerated in her home as a result of electronic monitoring. Since her case ended in 2016, Lavette has become a powerful advocate against pretrial incarceration, electronic monitoring and monetary bail. Lavette has appeared on ‘Chicago Tonight’ and has been interviewed by NPR and CBC radio.
