What’s one of the most crucial environmental problems concerning both fresh water and the oceans? Plastic, of course – the sea is filled with it and plenty of plastic waste also finds its way into therivers, local steams and waterways of the world. Comprised of fossil fuels like petroleum, a non-renewable resource, plastic is not biodegradable and makes up the majority of the floating waste. Furthermore, it poses a major health hazard to humans and animals since harmful chemicals found in plastic can be leeched into the water.
