Piero Gleijeses

Piero Gleijeses is a professor of US foreign policy at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University. His most recent book, Visions of Freedom: Havana, Washington, Pretoria and the Struggle for Southern Africa, 1976-1991 (2013) won the AHA Katz prize. Conflicting Missions: Havana, Washington, and Africa, 1959-1976 (2002) won the Ferrell Prize of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. He has also written The Cuban Drumbeat: Castro’s Worldview: Cuban Foreign Policy in a Hostile World, 2009; Shattered Hope: The Guatemalan Revolution and the United States, 1944-1954, 1991; and The Dominican Crisis: The 1965 Constitutionalist Revolt and American Intervention, 1978, as well as numerous articles. Gleijeses was awarded the Cuban Medal of Friendship in 2003.
